The Luxury Boudoir came about quite simply. I love luxury! I love it's quality, design, exclusivity and wanted to reflect that in my own creations. For the moment I have decided not to reproduce any of my art work as prints precisely to keep each individual piece unique and I'll be doing a similar thing with my line of accessories. Boudoir was chosen because my studio is a little bit like one - cosy with attractive furnishings - and much nicer than painting 'en plein air' - I tried it but didn't like the distractions.
(i) a state of great comfort or elegance, especially when involving great expense. (ii) an inessential, desirable item which is expensive or difficult to obtain. (iii) a pleasure obtained only rarely. plural noun: luxuries. synonyms: indulgence, extravagance, treat; refinement.
Word Origin and History for the word 'Luxury' - c.1300, "sexual intercourse;" mid-14c., "lasciviousness, sinful self-indulgence” from old French: luxurie "debauchery, lust", from Latin: luxuria "excess, luxury, extravagance; delicacy" (Italian: lussuria). From late 14c. the meaning was "sensual pleasure". From 1630's the meaning changed to “habit of indulgence in what is choice or costly" and from the 1700’s that of “sumptuous surroundings” and “something enjoyable or comfortable beyond life's necessities".
(i) a woman's bedroom or small private sitting room - in my case a "creative sanctuary". plural noun: boudoirs. synonyms: bedroom, bedchamber, salon, dressing room.
Word Origin and History for the word 'Boudoir' - Late 1700's, "room where a lady may retire to be alone," from French boudoir, literally "pouting room," from bouder "to pout or sulk" - which I confess to from time to time. Op. cit. - dictionary.com
